Description
Fine Target and Hunting rifle by Pirko on Wien, approximately 58 caliber. (Pirko is listed in Stockel as working in Wien 1850-1867.) Fine damascus heavy barrel, adjustable set trigger for percussion rifle. Nice Greek Key Gold inlay on barrel and fine lock, hammer and tang engraving. Trigger guard finial has a relief flowering tree with acorns surrounding a mountain ram standing on rocks. Buttplate is in fantastic high relief with oak leaves and acorns around a wild boars head with hunters horn and sword. Opposite side features a large stag head with hunting horn and quiver. Rear of buttplate is a running stem of oak leaves and acorns. Toe of buttplate has an owl in relief perched on a scone with the toe of the butt ending in a flower urn. The side plate depicts hounds attacking a wild boar. Stock is finely carved and the nose cap is buffalo horn. Stock has a gloss finish. Altogether this is a beautiful hunting rifle with high relief embellishments.
